What Is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a super effective treatment that uses a surgical razor to gently scrape off the top layer of dull, dead skin cells along with velours hair (commonly known as peach fuzz). The procedure removes the dead skin cells that can block pores, often making skin dry and flaky, revealing a smoother and brighter complexion. It is a painless procedure with most people liking the feeling.
Dermaplaning is the perfect ‘special’ facial for flawless make up. It is also suitable during pregnancy.
The treatment is recommended every three to four weeks.
What Are The Benefits?
Dermaplaning provides a safe and effective exfoliation treatment that promotes deeper product penetration, boosting the effects of skin care products . At the same time it will:
- diminish fine lines
- create a smoother brighter complexion
- improve skin tone and texture, whilst also making the skin look and feel smoother.
- reduce the appearance of scars
- works to remove facial hair that can trap dirt and oils.
The treatment can stand alone can be combined with micro needling or as an alternative to chemical peels.
What are the side effects?
In the hands-off a professional, derma planing is safe for most types of skin. However it is not suitable for those with rosacea, keratosis or inflamed acne as t may cause irritation. During the procedure you may feel a slight scratching sensation which may be uncomfortable but not painful. The treated skin may appear a little pink or red in colour but this should disappear in a day or two. Very rarely it may cause mild flaking of the skin that may last up to a week.
Does hair grow back after derma planing?
Hair will not make your hair grow back thicker or darker. Once your hair starts to grow back, it might feel different because the hair was cut straight across, but it will actually be the same texture as it was before and it will grow at the same speed.

Pre treatment advice
If possible come to the appointment ‘make up’ free. Expect the treatment to take between 20 to 50 minutes.
Post treatment advice
There is no down time with dermaplaning. After the treatment the skin may be pink and will be more susceptible to the sun so you will need to be diligent with sunscreen after. It is recommended to use at least SPF 30.
It is advisable to not wear make up for the rest of the day as the skin barrier may be more open.
The skin will look and feel much brighter.
The hair does not grow thicker after treatment. The hair will grow back the same as before, the only difference being that rather than a naturally pointy end, the hair will be blunt.
